WINTERSTART RESULTS

SKYWAY

Who cares if it’s cold. We have enough snow to ski on and we’re loving it!
Temperatures were brisk at the WinterStart but the smiles were broad as we
kicked off a new season of racing on Grand Mesa. Snow coverage was good for
early season and our grooming crew made the most of it setting a fun fast
course.

It was a treat to have the Aspen Valley Ski Club arrive with vans full of
kids looking for snow and competition. Very impressive in that bunch was Keegan
Swirbul who blazed to an easy win in the Classic 5K. The young skier put a
big gap on some stiff competition from Colorado Mesa University racer Tre
Anastasia and AVSC coach Travis Moore. Keep up the great skiing, Keegan! Winning
the women’s side was a familiar figure on the podium, Christie Aschwanden.
She cruised in ahead of two college racers Brooke Bosman and Gwynn Barrows.
Christie again prevailed in the Freestyle 5K but in that Gwynn snuck ahead
of Brooke to claim 2nd. In the men’s Freestyle Tre captured the win followed
by another old hand on the Grand Mesa podium, Terry Daley. Great skiing, all
of you!

Of course, it was our great volunteers who made this event happen. A big
thanks to Shirley and Bill Ela, Richard Hypio, Nilam Hypio, Anita Evans, Shannon
Raborn, Doug Conant and our steller parking marshalls Dave Aschwanden and
Winslow Robertson! Providing superior sustenance for all were our generous
