GMNC folks,
Forgive me for cutting in here, but I don’t want you to expect the unlikely. After looking at last night’s and this morning’s model runs, I think the National Weather Service snow forecast is way overdone. Snow will start Saturday afternoon on the GMNC trails and get heavy in the late afternoon and evening hours as the cold front sweeps over the region. My current forecast is for 1-3 inches Saturday afternoon and then 2-4 inches Saturday night with an overall new snow accumulation of around 3-5 inches but with higher amounts to 8 inches or so. The valleys on either side of the Mesa too could get an inch or so of snow, with Cedaredge getting more like 2-4 inches. Light snow may continue to fall up top Sunday morning but expect an inch or less.
Of course I have been wrong before, so lets keep hoping the NWS is right!
Along with the new snowfall, the good news are the colder temperatures. After another day in the 40s on Friday on the trails, afternoon temperatures will lower into the lower 30s on Saturday and then lower 20s or so on Sunday. Temperatures rebound on Monday and Tuesday as high pressure again builds in from the west, but a weaker passing wave on Wednesday promises another chance at light snow accumulation and cooler temperatures for the remainder of the work week to preserve it.
Enjoy!
Mojo
