A Beautiful Weekend, 28-29 January

After 4-6 inches of new snow fell on the trails early Friday, skies will clear Friday night and temperatures will plummet. The National Weather Service is calling for temperatures around zeroF, but it could be colder, and it will be much colder in places like Vista Valley. By race time Saturday, the warm sun and light winds will make it feel a little warmer than the temperatures in the low-mid 20s. But the snow will still be cold, sharp, and dry. Fluoro waxes won’t help, but something like Toko XCold powder mixed with a cold carbon wax will. If you are on the wax fence, error on the side of cold.

Sunday will see a few high clouds but will otherwise be another lovely day. Winds will remain light generally from the west. Temperatures will climb into lower 30s in the afternoon, but snow temperatures will remain in the low to mid 20s.

Mild temperatures continue into Monday but clouds and west winds will be on the increase. A couple of weak open troughs of low pressure will sweep through the northern Rockies Monday night through Wednesday. The GMNC trails may see some flurries but mainly just some west winds and clouds. The high pressure builds in from the west for the remainder of the week, for dry sunny and mild conditions.

Enjoy!
